Destination Review: Bolinao
Bolinao, in the province of Pangasinan on the west coast of Luzon, is not a big diving destination yet. This is the location of the Marine Science Lab of the University of the Philippines – and these scientists have been doing something amazing during the last decades: They brought the giant clam back from local extinction in the Philippines. By bringing in animals from the Solomon islands, they re-established a population. In Bolinao you can see a field of many hundreds of this massive animals in a shallow part of the ocean. A truly unique site!
Pictures to follow soon! I will be able to visit again in mid-2017.
How to get there: By car, from Manila. That takes about eight hours. The Clark/Angeles airport is closer. That route should take about two to three hours.
