Dive Computer Blenny
Last week a floral blenny, Petroscirtes mitratus decided that my dive computer is a great hide-out, preferable to the featureless mid-water where it had found me.
In German, the word “Kulturfolger” describes an animal which gains an advantage from the many modifications of the environment made by man. This blenny was a Kulturfolger for the few minutes it stuck with me. My arm and dive computer provided a hiding place when the fish otherwise would have had to use the few meager soft corals in the area. I didn’t manipulate marine life here – the blenny chose me.
I even caught the spectacle on video, it’s not easy to film your own wrist while in mid-water.
