From The Web, Worth Reading
There is a lot of interesting content on the internet coming out every week, and I feel that I am always missing out on reading a lot of it, simply because the day only has 24 hours, and the wakeful day which I can dedicate to reading is even less. You are probably in a similar situation. Here are three recommendations for what to read.
I have contributed to Hakai magazine, and always enjoy their articles. Thoughtful, engaged journalism, no click-bait, topics outside of the synchronized stream of mainstream infotainment. A good place to learn about the ocean and the people involved with it. This article talks about the tensions between eco-tourism and whaling:
I also love Quanta Magazine. An article about the wild word of non-linear differential equations! I admit, the title animation (not the photo linked below) drew me in:
And, I am happy to contribute the quality Austrian weekly Die Furche again. The article is in German, of course – it’s about the ethical questions which emerge when brain implants harvest immense amounts of data. Who owns these data? The patient, the scientists who implanted the device, or its manufacturer? Interesting issues brought about by new technologies.
