Two guys are fighting over a chick, and I got to watch! No, this was not Saturday night at Kings Cross in Sydney, but Sunday morning underwater in Kurnell, just a bit south, and all involved parties were cephalopods. Cephalopods are just the most amazing animals. Large-brained invertebrates! In any case, I love a good fight like everyone with some testosterone in his veins, and this is the blow by blow:
Oh, what a lovely day to go for a swim with my lady. I just love it in Botany Bay.Dude, what are you doing here? Fuck off! She is mine!Wrestling ensues. Wrestling with 8 arms is considerably more complex than wrestling with only 2.More good cephalopod wrestling. The lady is impressed by her man’s martial arts skills. the intruder is in the defensive. Not even a tunicate standing around in the underwater landscape can slow down the combating cephalopods. The lady ceph is right in the middle of the action.Very interesting, the visual language of these animals: blotches, directed at the female (out of the frame): friendly. Stripes, directed at the intruding male: agressive. The looser. And, he also had to cope with some weird marine mammal with a camera following him around after the fight. Such sucks life.
Funny? Did that entertain you? Inform? I hope so! Why not donate the price of a movie ticket (or a bit more?) to the Philippine Red Cross? Typhoon Yolanda hit these lovely islands – where my underwater photographic home is – hard, and the super lovely people there urgently need help now!
