As most of my readers and viewers will know, I somewhat regularly write for a few very high-end print and online media. I’ve been been blessed to be able to work with these outlets. But sometimes I write essays which are a bit too far out to place in popular science magazines: a bit too speculative, maybe somewhat of a personal story, or too much humor. The stories are just a different style of writing, both styles have their justification I think.

So here we go, three such examples from the last few years: Number one, about a hypothetical octopus civilization. No, I don’t think it existed, but it’s an interesting thought experiment:
