Summer Reading!
Ladies and gentlemen, if you need something stimulating and entertaining to read this summer on the beach or by the lakeside, I recommend:
The Camera and the Brain
In this book, I am following two photons: One enters the eye of a human, and becomes information which is processed in a human brain. The other one flies through the lens of a camera, and is transformed into the value of a pixel of a digital photograph. How much does the fate of these two photons have in common? Read the book to find out!
The Mindpost
Written in 2013 when I really didn’t feel like writing yet another research grant application, “The Mindpost” is a fun sci-fi novel, with a bit of a drug novel, and a strong hint of political parody. Global warming will certainly mess us all up, read here how this could turn out.
Sex, Drugs, Scuba Diving
Written when I was living in Japan I decided to write some popular science marine biology: “Sex, Drugs and Scuba Diving”. It has interesting stories about marine animals such as sharks and octopi, and some chapters about the history of the Pacific Ocean’s peoples as well. Lots of nice photographs, too.
Everything you ever wanted to know about shipwrecks in the Philippines, written by Stefan Baehr, with a chapter of mine about wrecks as artificial reefs. In German – an English translation will be released very soon!
