Fish of the MonthUnderwater Video

Triggerfish

A video which I shot a few years ago, while I was really testing a new housing for a popular compact camera, went fully viral on YouTube. In that video a titan triggerfish, Balistoides viridescens, attacks me. I barely get away. I re-uploaded the video now, with an explanation what in fact is going on, what kind of fish this titan triggerfish is, and why the triggerfishes (there are dozens of species of triggerfishes) have their name.

Check out the new, improved, extra awesome and fully educational video:

Here is the original video:

Pretty wild, isn’t it?

One thing I want o point out is that this kind of aktschn is rare, and should not at all keep you from snorkeling and scuba diving!

Below is my collection of triggerfish and relatives (puffer- file- and boxfish) on Flickr. As usual, all of these shots are creative commons and can be used for no-commercial purposes like art, education and research.

Nemo is Aggressive, Too

And as a bonus video, this is another fish attacking a diver – this time it’s the anemone fish, the so-called “Nemo”, which smacks my mate Matt in the eye:

Happy Fishes & Till Soon,
