Very New Writings

I am somewhat on a roll lately when it comes to popular science writing. Besides the series of articles I have published already in the last two months, I have a few more in the pipeline, which touch on topics close to my heart. As usual in the field of popular science writing I am contacting magazines which I think would be a good fit for the articles, but these two pieces I already wrote and if you as an editor see this announcement and are interested in the topics, please get in touch with me:

Marine Conservation Organizations, NGOs, Research Institutes, Paid Volunteering: What is What and for Whom?

A situation which is not easy to navigate for an enthusiastic young person is to figure out what the various NGOs, marine conservation organizations, marine bio research institutes and so on actually are, and which place is the right one for her or him to spend some time at. This article aims to clarify the web of different institutions and explain what they do and what the institutional names and titles actually mean.

And, very related to this topic:

Marine Conservation: The Awesome, The Misguided and The Commercial

It’s important for the critical, educated public to focus on efforts which prioritize actual marine conservation over emotional and financial gains for the purveyors of the projects in question. This article of course hasn’t answered every question about the merits of every single marine conservation project, but I hope it has nudged some of you to take a critical look at what’s celebrated in media and social media as efforts meant to “save the ocean”. Some of it deserves celebration.

The previous batch of articles I’d love to get ou to the interested public is here: The articles now live on the desks of magazine editors who might or might not love them back. I’ll keep you posted. Cephalopods, and the unique language of underwater photography.
