Spectacular Underwater Footage from the Web

I spent a quite a bit of time surveying them social media for interesting underwater footage and stills last week, and I found quite some gems! Number one: I very occasionally see the tropical blue-ringed octopi in the Philippines, and saw the southern hemisphere species more often in Australia. But I’ve never seen these very venomous creatures mate. What a spectacle!

Finally: Amazing! This eeems to be the first time this species was filmed alive in its natural habitat.

NEW: 100 years after it was first identified (from bits in a whale’s stomach), scientists have finally caught sight – and recorded footage – of the ultra-elusive colossal squid alive in its deep-sea habitat. It looks like a ghostly alien! 👻
