Visiting Fort San Pedro

In the old part of Cebu City stands Fort San Pedro, a Spanish colonial military installation from the 1630s. The fort is close to the ferry ports, and next to a park, and a few museums. In a city which is increasingly becoming a smaller version of Manila – a massive metropolis with intense traffic, more and more high-rise buildings, but also ace dining choices and shiny malls – the fort provides a great spot to spend a chill afternoon and to learn some history.

The video below gives you an idea how a visit to Fort San Pedro goes. Visit early or later in the day to avoid the heat! Due to the vicinity to the ferry piers, this is a great sight to visit of you are on your way to another island by boat and have 1-2 hours ahead of the time you have to be at the port to buy a ticket. Also, there are vendors in the area in front of the fort who sell water, and coconut juice, a great way to rehydrate on a hot tropical day.
