Fish Conspiracies

I am intrigued by the phenomenon of science denialism and I am also fascinated by fishes. What would be nicer if there was a combination of the two? A conspiracy theory involving fishes? Well, the belief that fish stocks are infinite and that fishing like humanity fishes right now is a bizarre belief to me, but it probably doesn’t qualify as a conspiracy theory.

So, in the absence of fish-themed conspiracy theories which I could study, I had to make up my own.

There are no Gobies

Gobies? The fish family with the second most species? They don’t exist. This line of reasoning is as solid as the reasoning that anthropogenic climate change does not exist, and we made a little video with “arguments” (bad rhetorical tricks? Where is the line between these?) to support our point.

Soles are Spheroids

This is a new idea: Soles are ball-shaped (spheroids). Why? To be consistent. A lot of people, and its seems an increasing number of people, believe the Earth is flat. They believe this despite very obvious evidence to the contrary. Sooo… how about them being at least consistent, and have counterfactual beliefs about all flat and spheroid shaped objects? Soles are very obviously flat fishes (see the picture below), the flat earthers could (should!) claim that these fishes are in fact spheroids.

Sounds convincing? Don’t hesitate to troll the internets with these good ideas!

Best Fishes,

Klaus
