Large Moth Visitor

We recently had a visitor in our Dumaguete apartment at the time right after sunset. A very large moth!

It’s a testament to the insect’s size that I had to take the macro lens off my camera and use the OLYMPUS M.14-42mm F3.5-5.6 II R wide-angle zoom lens to photograph it.

What a beautiful animal! It seemed healthy, but it was possible to approach it closely, when moving slowly and carefully. Glaiza put her hand next to it to demonstrate the animal’s large size. If you have the choice of using the hand of an Austrian dude who has been lifting weights on and off for the last 28 years, or the hand of a Filipina lady, use the latter for insect-size comparison! It makes the already large moth look even larger.

After the photo session I carefully ushered the animal out of the window back to nature.
