Thailand

We got to spend the last two weeks in Thailand, thanks to the generosity of my parents. That was fun. We spend our time in and around Hua Hin just 3 hours south of Bangkok. Thailand of course has brilliant food, the people were friendly in all interactions I had, and while the country hasn’t lost any of its chill SE Asian vibe, it’s modern, clean and well organized in all the parts I saw. The traffic runs much more like in Austria than in the Philippines.

I am always impressed by the beautiful temple architecture in Thailand. Please check out more of it on my Instagram, I really started using this platform for travel photography, and I went back to using it for that. What pretty sights the corner of Thailand we visited had!

Glaiza actually ate these crabs. There is a part of Thai food which I think is awesome, and which I’m sure tastes great, but which I don’t want to risk eating with a stomach not used to it. The very very spicy part of the cuisine is part of that, and things like these crabs….

Graffiti

A striking thing about the city of Hua Hin was that the place had lots of artsy, very symbol-laden (eyes everywhere!) graffiti. I wonder if this is the work of one very busy guy, or a collective, or it that is the new Thai style of graffiti. The art looked a bit like the late Keith Haring’s.

I didn’t try to dive, and I believe the northern gulf of Thailand is not the place for it. The beaches were more or less clean (some stranded dead fish and jellyfish) but the gulf seems less than 20 m deep in its whole north; and the megacity Bangkok is not too far. I didn’t see any ads for local dive shops. From what I gather, it’s the east coast of Thailand which has great diving. I’d like to try it sometime for sure.

Monkeys

We visited a temple called Wat Khao Takiap, which is one of the most photographed places in Hua Hin. It’s also populated by monkeys. Special tip: watch the video below from 8:15 on.

We had a great time, and I hope my photographs and the Vlog convey the beauty of Hua Hin.
