Film Projects!
There are a few film projects which are currently in my pipeline which I hope will come to fruition sometime in 2023 or 2024. I am introducing them to you below. So What Are These Upcoming (I Hope!) Documentaries?
Number one is a documentary about the evolution of large pelagic filter feeders in the ocean – animals which feed like whales or manta rays. This is a collaboration with paleoartist extraordinaire Alice Turner, and it’s based on a scientific review paper of mine. This is an amazing story which started half a billion years ago. We have already made a nice trailer:
Smartest Fish in the Ocean
Number Two: I am in the process of getting as much quality footage about the behavior of “cleaning” – the removal of parasites from the bodies of fishes by specialized shrimp and fishes. The cleaner wrasse is probably the most well-known of these cleaner fishes. There are so many unusual aspects about the behavior and neurobiology of this wrasse that it deserves its own documentary. I already wrote a popular science article (in German) for Die Furche about the cleaner wrasse.
Apnea and the Brain
Finally, I am very interested in the physiology of Apnea diving. I am covering some new and exciting insights into what happens to a human brain when its owner decides to hold his or her breath for a long time in my latest book:
I am presently brainstorming with a few apnea diving friends how to cover these topics best in a short documentary. Stay tuned!
